UAW Strikers Demand Dignity, Stand Up for Us All

On September 24, 2007 the United Auto Workers were forced to strike General Motors Corporation. As union President Ron Gettlefinger said on the 24th at a news conference, "We've done a lot of things to help that company. There comes a point in time when you have to draw a line in the sand." In recent years UAW members have done their part by working with the company on issues such as the corporate restructuring, the attrition plan, the Delphi bankruptcy [which was devestating for Indiana], the 2005 health care agreement, and numerous quality, productivity, health, and safety issues. Workers gave up a 3 percent general wage increase in 2006 and cost of living allowances. Its time for the company to do its part.

UAW workers want job security, economic and other benefits for the active workers. The Indiana District of the Communist Party USA extends our heartfelt support and encouragement to the UAW strikers and supports their demands. We call upon all supporters of organized labor, working people and our friends and allies, to visit picket lines to show support, push for pledges of solidarity from organizations in which you are active, and reach out to show the strikers and the company that the community stands resolutely behind this strike. No tax breaks for any company that doesn't treat their workers with dignity.

US Out of Iraq Now: Mobilizing, Organizing, and Voting to End the War in Iraq

Three years into “shock and awe”, the Bush administration’s imperialist war and occupation of Iraq has shattered hundreds of thousands of lives, both in Iraq and in the United States.

The Iraqi people have awakened from the nightmare of dictatorship only to be plunged into a seemingly bottomless abyss of bombings, torture and executions by the U.S. military; death squads, attacks on civilians and exploding sectarian violence between the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish communities; car bombings and other terrorist attacks on civilians by Al-Qaeda-type groups in Iraq. <More...>

Health Care Now!

The people of Indiana, like the rest of the nation, face a health care crisis. As more and more companies shed or diminish the health insurance coverage they offer workers, more and more of us are under-insured or lack insurance completely. This is a trend that is going to continue until we take insurance companies' fat fingers out of the pot and switch to a single payer health care solution. See Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan and Healthcare-NOW! for community* initiatives in this area.

No! to the I-69 Extension

The Communist Party of Indiana CPUSA stands against the I-69 Extension. The 140-mile all new highway extension will cut through farms, be environmentally destructive, and serves only to support the anti-labor NAFTA treaty. The $1.7 billion should be used to repair existing roadways with union labor.
